| Penn State Board Member Named Acting AD |
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Penn State has named Dr. David M. Joyner, a member of its board of trustees and a former wrestler and football player for the Nittany Lions, as its acting athletic director in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The school said in a news release Wednesday that Joyner will take over immediately, replacing Tim Curley, who stepped aside after being charged with perjury and failing to report a 2002 child rape accusation against Sandusky to police. Joyner will give up his position on the board as he takes on his new duties. Joyner is an orthopedic physician and business consultant who got his bachelor's and medical degrees from Penn State. He has worked with the U.S. Olympic Committee and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
