Basketball

Now that we have turned the calendar to November, the start of the high school and college basketball seasons is just about here. Monmouth College will be holding it's "red and white" scrimmage this evening at 7 o'clock at Glennie Gymnasium, with free admission. And the Galesburg High School boys basketball team will hold a "meet and greet" fundraiser at the Pizza House tonight from 5 to 8.

GHS CC and Swim

A pair of Silver Streaks girl's teams are finishing preparations for big events tomorrow. The GHS cross country team has qualified for state, and will be running in the field at Detweiler Park in Peoria in the morning. Galesburg senior Stephanie Seay is expected to be one of the top finishers.

At the same time, the Silver Streak swimming and diving team will be hosting the Western Big-6 Conference meet at Mustain Pool.

College Football/Hoops

The final home game of the season for the Knox Prairie Fire football team comes up tomorrow, as coach Chad Eisele's squad will play host to the Lawrence Vikings. Kickoff time is 1pm at the Knosher Bowl. Knox is tuning up for their finale next week, when they travel to Monmouth to play the Fighting Scots in the Bronze Turkey game on November 10th. Monmouth will be in Ripon, Wisconsin tomorrow to play the RedHawks.

The Midwest Conference Preseason basketball poll was released yesterday, and it shows low expectations for the area favorites. Knox is picked to finish last in the men's standings, while Monmouth shows up at #9 in the 11-team league. The women's forecast shows Knox is picked to finish 9th, while Monmouth gets plenty of respect as the third-ranked team in the league. St. Norbert has been tabbed as the teams to beat in both the men's and women's play for the upcoming season.
