HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
A split day Saturday for the Galesburg High School Boys Basketball team in their Thanksgiving tournament, which also saw a career high get set. GHS Sophomore Grant Gibson scored 45 points en route to a 73-60 win over Chicago's Team Englewood. The career best came just a day after Gibson scored 35 in the win over Chicago Dyett.
The fortunes weren't as good Saturday night, as the Streaks lost to Limestone 67-63. Gibson led the Streaks with 17 points in the losing effort, followed by Travon Diggons' 13. The Streaks finish their tournament at 3-2, while Limestone came in at 4-1.
The Galesburg Girls basketball team, however, had another dominating performance, in a 77-40 victory over Freeport, putting the Streaks at 5-1 on the young season. Jessica Lieber became the 14th Streak to score 1000 points or more in her career, with a game-high 22 points, 15 of which came from beyond the three-point line. Sharron Diggins scored 19 points.
