Now that the Thanksgiving tournaments are out of the way, high school basketball can settle into a regular routine with a full schedule of Friday night boys games set to tipoff tonight. One of those contests finds the Galesburg Silver Streaks on the road in Moline to face the Maroons in their Western Big 6 Conference opener. Both teams finished last weekend with records of 3-2, with their losses coming to the same teams--Chicago Westinghouse and Bartonville Limestone. Galesburg and Moline are predicted to finish in the middle of the conference standings....with Rock Island and Quincy being the early favorites. Our Silver Streaks broadcast should being at about 7:10 this evening here on WGIL.
Elsewhere in the Western Big Six tonight, Rock Island plays Alleman at Augustana College, and Quincy travels to East Moline.
Other boys basketball games to be played tonight include:
Abingdon at Farmington
Knoxville at Brimfield
Monmouth-Roseville at Orion
Williamsfield at ROWVA
The Silver Streaks girls will look for their seventh win of the season tomorrow when they host the Dunlap Eagles. Galesburg moved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play last night with a 75-67 overtime win over Quincy. Broadcast time tomorrow is set for 1:10 from John Thiel Gymnasium. WGIL will also carry the boys game tomorrow night from Metamora, where the Redbirds enter the weekend with a 4-0 record.
