The Knox College women's swim team competed in the Augustana Invitational on December 4th and 5th, finishing in third-place out of a field of 10 teams thanks to a sterling performance by sophomore Bess Cooley.
Cooley led the Prairie Fire by finishing the two-day meet with four individual first-place finishes: the 100 breaststroke (1:09.29), 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.87), 200 individual medley (2:18.07) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:55.90).
Cooley broke two of her own school-records, besting her previous mark in the 100-yard breaststroke by more than a second (old record: 1:10.98) and in the 200-yard breaststroke by almost five seconds (old record: 2:34.25). Cooley, along with Tory Kassabaum and Rachel Clark, contributed on five relay teams that gave the Prairie Fire one first-place, one second-place and three third-place finishes.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Cooley, Laura Blue, Kassabaum and Clark took first-place and set a new school-record with their time of 3:56.33. Kassabaum finished second individually in the 500 and 1650-yard frees (19:57.10) while also taking third-place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.44) and seventh in the 100-yard free (59.46).

A shorthanded Knox men's team finished eighth out of nine teams. Tyler O'Neill led the way for the men's team, as he picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.82) and 200-yard free (1:55.61).
O'Neill also took seventh-place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.83, with less than three seconds separating him from the first place finisher.
