|UPDATED 5:15 a-m 12/15/09 Galesburg High School's boys and girls basketball teams will play back-to-back games at this year's Charleston Holiday Tournament.
The teams broke away from the State Farm Holiday Classic this year for the tournament in Charleston. The field in Charleston includes eight boys teams and eight girls teams, a switch from the 16-team boys tournament held for 32 years and 16-team girls tournament for the past 16 years.
The tournament steps off December 28th at Eastern Illinois University's Lantz Arena.
The Galesburg boys team, off to a 5-3 start, will open against state power Edwardsville on the 28th at 5:45 p-m. The Tigers have won seven straight regional titles under longtime coach Mike Waldo and posted seasons of 20 or more wins 15 times in Waldo's 22 years, including six of the last seven.
Galesburg's girls team, with a 6-5 record, will play at 4:30 p-m on the 28th against Urbana.
Both Galesburg squads will play Charleston in the earlier games on the 29th at Baker Gymnasium at Charleston High School. The girls game is scheduled to tip off at 11 a-m and the boys game at 12:15. The GHS girls team will play again at 4:30 p-m on the 29th at Lantz Arena against Taylorville. Galesburg's boys team will follow against the Tornadoes, a member of the Central State Eight Conference, at 5:45 p-m.
The final day of games at Lantz Arena begin at 8:30 a-m with the girls 7th place game and continue until 8:15 p-m when the boys championship game is set to tip off.
