Genesis PSP Iowa/Illinois Shootout at Augustana College
Davenport Assumption (6-1) beat Galesburg (5-5) 64-57. Victor Davis led the Streaks with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Thompson chipped in with 13 points. The loss was the third straight and fourth in the last five games for GHS heading into the Charleston Holiday tournament against state power Edwardsville (4-0) December 28th at 5:45 p-m at Eastern Illinois University's Lantz Arena.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL
Galesburg (7-6) is now above the .500 mark after beating Maine South 58-57 in a non-conference game at John Thiel Gymnasium.
The win is the 699th for long-time GHS coach Evan Massey. Jessica Howard, the Silver Streaks leading scorer, led her team with 15 points, mostly from 3-point range, while Shelby Pacheco scored 12.
Galesburg plays Canton Monday night at historic Ingersoll Gymnasium in downtown Canton in a game you can hear on AM 1400 WGIL and online at www.wgil.com.
Galesburg High School's sophomore team lost to Maine South 67-64, dropping the squad's record below .500 at 6-7. Sharron Diggins led the Streaks with 22 points, half of which came from the free-throw line.

Dani Teel and Allison Mangieri led the Streaks with 11 points apiece. Galesburg resumes play Monday at home against Peoria Notre Dame.
HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING
Galesburg Highs School's boys team placed 10th in the annual 11-team Peoria Richwoods Midwest Invitational. Sandburg High School of Orland Park took top honors.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Monmouth 68 (4-4, 0-3), Trine 63
The Fighting Scots were in control most of the way in a 68-63 win over Trine University.
Monmouth built a 16-point first half lead, but saw that cushion evaporate as Trine chipped away and regained the lead early in the second half. Monmouth responded with a 10-0 run.
Fueled by Zipporah Williams' six points over the four-minute barrage, the Scots took control and never looked back, reclaiming a 16-point edge on Colleen Forrest's trey with 7:32 left. Lynsey Barnard led all scorers with 25 points and Williams added 17. (Monmouth College Athletics)
Carl Sandburg College 56, McHenry College 38
CSC (4-7) led 30-12 at the half. The Chargers were led by Alivia Colwell, who hit five 3's and finished with 19 points. Michelle Storm netted double-figures with 11.
CSC hit 11 three-point baskets in the game but made just 5-of-14 from the free-throw line.
MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Carl Sandburg College 92, Monmouth College J-V 83
Carl Sandburg (7-7) College was led in scoring by Jeremy Sewell with 25 points. Steve Reynolds added 17 while Drake Webster and Jo-Paul Jones had 15 apiece.
Sandburg led 51-37 at the half and never looked back.
Georgia 70, Illinois 67
Georgia made four straight free-throws down the stretch to beat the Fighting Illini in Athens. Demetri McCamey led the Illini (8-3) with 21 points. The loss snaps Illinois' four game winning streak. The Bulldogs (5-4) snapped a three-game skid with the win. |
