| Galesburg Boys Basketball Team Beats Charleston, Taylorville |
UPDATED 11:13 p-m 12/29/09 Galesburg won both of its games, one of them by coming from behind and the other in a blowout.
The Silver Streaks opened against Charleston on the Trojans’ home floor at Baker Gymnasium and shocked the hosts 62-56.
Charleston pounced on the Silver Streaks early and led 26-12 after the first quarter. The Trojans extended the lead to 20 on two occasions late in the second quarter before Galesburg cut the deficit to 18 (41-23) at halftime.
The Silver Streaks bounced back in a big way in the second half by outscoring Charleston (5-5) 39-15, including a 21-5 third quarter run, while holding the Trojans to just 19 shots over the final two quarters.
Victor Davis led the Streaks with 30 points. Dalton Davis added 14.
Galesburg hammered Taylorville in the second game of the day 76-17.
The Streaks scored the first five points of the game before Taylorville (0-12) answered with a basket. Galesburg (7-6) then scored 29 straight points and led 41-6 at the half. A 22-6 Galesburg run in the third quarter prompted a running clock over the final eight minutes.
The Streaks’ starters sat most of the second half. Garrett Williams scored 15 points to lead Galesburg. Ryan McElmurray added 13 while Trimaine Carson and Logan Scott scored 10 points each.
