| Whitey Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame |
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Former major league Manager Whitey Herzog and longtime umpire Doug Harvey have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Herzog managed in the majors from 1973-90 and won the 1982 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals before capturing pennants with the 1985 and '87 Cardinals. He also skippered the Kansas City Royals to three straight division titles from 1976-78. Harvey umpired in the National League for 31 seasons before retiring in 1992. He worked five World Series. They will and be enshrined at Cooperstown, N.Y., on July 25.
