High School Girls Basketball

United Township dealt Galesburg its third consecutive loss to open Western Big Six play.

The Panthers (4-5, 2-1) jumped out to a five point first quarter lead that they'd expand to seven after the third quarter and beat the Silver Streaks 80-73 at John Thiel Gym.

Shelby Pacheco led Galesburg (5-4, 0-3) with 17 points. Sara Baker added 15, Jessica Howard 11 and Sadee Hamilton 10. Shanice Morrow scored 17 her game-high 29 points in the second half for East Moline.

U-T pulled off the sweep by beating the GHS sophomore squad 64-60. Jessica Lieber scored a game-high 26 in the loss for Galesburg (5-4, 1-2).

Knoxville used a suffocating defense to beat Abingdon 37-10. The Blue Bullets are now 9-1 on the season.

Monmouth-Roseville stopped Macomb in Olympic Conference play 50-35. The Titans outscored the Bombers 19-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. Claire McGuire led M-R with 12 points and Rebecca Gillen added 10 in the victory. Macomb won the junior varsity game 48-37.

BPCA shrugged off a sluggish start in which the Spartans fell behind Elmwood 16-7 by outscoring the Trojans 20-3 in the second stanza and cruised the rest of the way, winning 60-36.

Kendra Pierce led all scorers with 26 points and added nine steals for BPCA (4-5, 1-2 Prairieland). Elmwood's record dropped to 0-7 (0-1 Prairieland) with the loss.

Havana blew past Lewistown 60-33

Illini West beat West Central 49-30

High School Boys Basketball

Rowva defeated Knoxville 75-70 in OT. Five Tigers scored in double-figures, led by Matt (?) Shepherd with 15. Matt Sagona scored a game-high 26 for the Blue Bullets. Knoxville won the freshman-sophomore game 45-30.

Local College Basketball


Monmouth College lost at Illinois College 89-88

Carl Sandburg College won at Spoon River College. The Chargers (6-6) were led in scoring by Jeremy Sewell's 25 points. D.T. Thornton added 20 and Steve Reynolds had 16. Spoon River hit 14 three-point field goals to get back in the game after trailing by 19 at the half.


Monmouth College lost at Illinois College 70-67

Carl Sandburg College won at Spoon River College 54-51. Michelle Storm led CSC in scoring with 15 points. Molly Kramer added 14 and Alivia Colwell 8.

High School Girls Bowling

Rock Island defeated Galesburg (2366-2211). Courtney Sargeant rolled a 486 three-game series to lead the Streaks. Colleen Weichmann had the high game of 180. The GHS junior varsity team defeated the Rocks (1961-1636).
