| Notre Dame's Coach Wins Big in Sun Bowl |
EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Brian Kelly is the first Notre Dame coach to win a bowl game in his first season. Freshman Tommy Rees passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns as the Irish humbled Miami 33-17 in the Sun Bowl.
Notre Dame reached the end zone on three of its first four possessions.
The 8-5 Irish closed with four victories to cap an up-and-down season under Kelly, who began with a rocky 1-3 start.
Miami was coached by interim coach Jeff Stoutland, who replaced the fired Randy Shannon.
