Quinn Calls Santo "Very Special Person"
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is praising former Chicago Cub Ron Santo as a "very special person" after nine times all-star's death from complications of bladder cancer.

Santo died Friday and accolades were pouring in for the longtime baseball radio announcer who rooted for the Cubs and suffered their losses like any diehard fan.

Quinn praised Santo for his efforts at raising money to find a cure for diabetes, a disease Santo was diagnosed with when he was 18, but long kept from his teammates.

The governor called Santo a "great guy" and a "man for all seasons." He also called Santo a "great baseball player," although he hasn't been inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame.
