|MLB Union: End of Drug Case "Significant Victory"
|NEW YORK (AP) -- The head of baseball's players' union calls the end of the case involving drug test results seized by the government "a significant victory for our members."
The Justice Department said Friday it would not contest an appeals court ruling that said investigators illegally seized a list of players who allegedly tested positive for steroids. The deadline for asking the Supreme Court to review the case was Monday.
Major League Baseball Players Association executive director Michael Weiner said in a statement Tuesday the union had "always believed that the seizures were improper and violated the rights of the players and the MLBPA."
In September, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in San Francisco ordered investigators to return the list of 104 players.
