|UCLA, Illinois Put New Face on NCAA Volleyball Championship
|SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The NCAA women's volleyball championship has some faces this time around.
Illinois (32-4) and UCLA (29-6) will meet in Saturday's championship at the Alamodome. The Illini are making their first finals appearance and the Bruins haven't been this far since 1994.
The matchup makes for the championship's biggest facelift in years. Since 2004, every title match has included at least one of five schools: four-time champion Penn State, Nebraska, Texas, California or Stanford.
UCLA was once the blueprint of how to build a dynasty. The Bruins won three championships while making five consecutive trips to the national semifinals starting in 1988.
UCLA coach Michael Sealy says that longevity is harder to pull off in today's era.
