|GHS AD Talks Separate Tournaments
|Galesburg High School Athletic Director Ralph Henning said for the first time in many years, the boys and girls will play at separate venues for the holidays.
Henning explains how that happened.
"It came about because there really is no other place that they can go together," Henning said. "When we got out of the State Farm [Bloomington-Normal Holiday Classic], we immediately went to Eastern [Illinois University] and the Charleston Tournament. They had the boys and girls divisions; that was a nice setup. We did that for a couple years. Unfortunately, Charleston, for budget reasons or whatever it was, they dropped the boys side of the tournament. Taylorville said...'We'll take it and host most of the field that Charleston had' and they created a holiday tournament there."
"We're [the two tournaments] are a ways apart," Henning said. "I've been trying to figure out my mileage to be able to go to both games. Looks like it's about...an hour and a half apart."
The Streaks boys play Charleston at 1pm Wednesday, with a 12:40pm broadcast time on WGIL. They'll then play at 7pm vs. the host Taylorville, with a 7:10pm pregame on WGIL.
Inbetween, the Galesburg girls will play Decatur Eisenhower in the Charleston tournament. Pregame at 3:40pm, tipoff at 4pm, also on WGIL.
You can hear all games on AM 1400 WGIL, or by clicking "Special Events Audio" at WGIL.COM.
