Angels' Move for Pujols is About More than Homers
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles Angels think they got much more than Albert Pujols when they signed perhaps the most successful slugger of his generation to a $254 million free-agent contract.

The Angels got a new identity, both on the field and in the front office. They got a spot among baseball's marquee franchises for as long as Pujols' health and talent hold.

And the Orange County club pounced on the wounded, hapless Dodgers with a move that has the potential to change the hierarchy of baseball in Southern California.

Baseball is still digesting the Angels' dual deals for Pujols and left-hander C.J. Wilson, but players and scholars alike already can see the club wanted Pujols for more than what he'll mean on the diamond.
