| Angels' Move for Pujols is About More than Homers |
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles Angels think they got much more than Albert Pujols when they signed perhaps the most successful slugger of his generation to a $254 million free-agent contract. The Angels got a new identity, both on the field and in the front office. They got a spot among baseball's marquee franchises for as long as Pujols' health and talent hold. And the Orange County club pounced on the wounded, hapless Dodgers with a move that has the potential to change the hierarchy of baseball in Southern California. Baseball is still digesting the Angels' dual deals for Pujols and left-hander C.J. Wilson, but players and scholars alike already can see the club wanted Pujols for more than what he'll mean on the diamond. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
