HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
The Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball team couldn't pull out the victory in the Charleston girls tournament Saturday, losing to Effingham in the tournament championship game 68-67 in a heart-breaker. Effingham had a lead they never gave up from the second quarter on. Sharron Diggins led the Streaks with 21 points, and Jessica Lieber had 20 points. The two were named to the all-tournament team.
OTHER BASKETBALL
Wethersfield beat Knoxville's girls in the championship of the Erie Warkins Cardinal Classic Saturday 55-27. Wethersfield's Sarah Hansen led the game with 33 points, 26 of which came in the first half. Tessa Jones led the Blue Bullets with 10 points. Erie beat Monmouth-Roseville at the Warkins Cardinal Classic 47-43, putting the Titans in fourth place. Ridgewood beat Fulton 49-46, and Galva defeated Bureau Valley at Erie 41-26.
At Mendon, West Prairie's Boys beat B-PC/A 58-48. West Central defeated the Quincy Notre Dame J/V squad 84-49 to place fifth in the tournament. |
