Girls Basketball

The schedule shows a fairly light schedule of girls basketball games will be played around the area tonight. In Aledo, the ROWVA Tigers will try to build on their strong start to the season when they play the Mercer County Golden Eagles. In other games:

United at West Prairie
Ridgewood at Annawan
West Central at Stark County
Midland at Galva/Williamsfield

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls are getting prepared for a pair of big tests as we approach the weekend. Tomorrow night, the Streaks will host Rock Island, with the Western Big 6 Conference lead on the line. Rock Island is 7-0 while Galesburg is 7-1. Then on Saturday, coach Evan Massey and company will be on the road for the first time this season, as they play in Park Ridge against state power Maine South.

College Basketball

The Knox Prairie Fire men's basketball team will look for a second straight win this Saturday when they host Beloit. Knox picked up it's first victory for new head coach Kevin Walden last night when they defeated Cornell 84-80. The Fire outscored the Rams 33-9 at the free throw line to secure the win.

In Monmouth, the Fighting Scots women may be the team to beat in the Midwest Conference, after they moved to 7-0 for the first time in school history, beating Grinnell last night 57-45.
