|POSTED 2:51pm 1/15/13 A bank with a longstanding location in Galesburg will be moving a block in just a few months.
The downtown Galesburg Wells Fargo location will be moving from Main and Prairie Streets into the former Associated Bank building at Main and Cherry Streets around June. Wells Fargo will be leasing the building from MAK Properties, owned by Mark and Jeanette Kleine, who are in turn purchasing the Main and Prairie Street facility, along with the drive-up location at 160 North Prairie.
Wells Fargo Galesburg Market president Troy McCrery tells WGIL the move was necessitated by the need to make their banking operations downtown much more convenient.
"This new location allows us to provide added convenience for our customers," McCrery said. "This combines our drive-up, which has been separate for many years, into the same location. It also allows us to have an ATM accessible by vehicle instead of having to come into the vestibule."
McCrery says the transition should be as seamless as possible for customers and employees alike. He says there may be a job or two added as a result of the move, but otherwise expects things to be status quo.
No word from the Kleines as to what their intentions are for the Main and Prairie Street building, which McCrery says Wells Fargo and the banks that preceded it have been in for at least a half-century.
The North Henderson Street Wells Fargo location will remain open and unaffected by the downtown move.
