ELMWOOD, Ill. (AP) -- The central Illinois village of Elmwood has received a second grant from the state to pay for downtown improvements after a 2010 tornado. Dozens of homes and businesses in Elmwood were destroyed or damaged when a tornado touched down in June 2010. No one was killed. The Journal Star in Peoria reports that the village has received a $1.7 million Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant. Elmwood economic development director Dick Taylor says the money will let the village finish tornado repairs. He says in a way it's closure. Elmwood also received a $500,000 grant in September 2011. Elmwood is in Peoria County about 25 miles west of Peoria. |
