|The plans for improvements to Galesburg High School are moving ahead.
The District-205 Master Facilities Implementation Committee Tuesday okayed plans for improved athletic facilities at GHS, sending them to the full District school board Building Committee, which will hear about them Thursday, and vote on whether to send them to the full school board for approval.
Architect Paul Kouri told the committee Tuesday the 15 million dollars in expansion and improvements are slightly under budget, and some serious review was needed to make that happen.
"When we went through the process of looking -- trying -- to get the project in budget, we looked at everything," Kouri said. "Nothing was off the table. There were cuts made across the board. We think that's the right way to do it, so everybody is giving and taking equally through the project."
Kouri says materials are changed in a number of places, an entranceway to the football stadium is being shortened, and some other additions were made in addition to cuts.
There are about $1.4 million in alternates that would be added if the project falls further under budget, including artificial turf on the football field.
