Indicted State Rep. Smith Back In Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Indicted state Rep. Derrick Smith is back in Springfield and has taken the oath of office after he was arrested on bribery charges and expelled him from office last year.

Voters put the Chicago Democrat back in office in November.

Smith says he's ready to get back to work and serve his constituents. He spoke to reporters Wednesday after the swearing-in ceremony.

Smith is among three lawmakers in the new General Assembly who face charges. Rep. La Shawn Ford faces bank fraud charges unrelated to his public office. He's pleaded not guilty.

State Sen. Donne Trotter was arrested for allegedly trying to bring a gun onto an airplane. Workers at O'Hare International Airport found the gun in his pack. Trotter says he forgot it was there. He's pleaded not guilty.
