Sears Closing at Sandburg Mall
Sears Holdings Company confirmed in a press release Friday they will be closing their store in Galesburg to the public in mid-May.

The location currently resides at Sandburg Mall. Sears employs 46 in Galesburg, but those losing their jobs will be eligible to receive severance according to the company.

Sears will begin liquidating its assets on February 21st of this year because a lease was not renewed with Sandburg Mall.

Sears Holdings Company has continued to cut costs company-wide as part of plans to adjust its asset base and change its business model.

K-Mart - which is also located in Sandburg Mall - is also owned by Sears Holdings Company. A majority of the associates employed by Sears in Galesburg are considered part-time employees.

Management at Sandburg mall was unavailable for comment on the store's closing.
