Committee OK's Social Host Ordinance Going to City Council
After months of discussion and research, the Galesburg Liquor Advisory Commission made its final review of the Social Host/Party Nuisance Ordinance.

The ordinance would provide for local sanctions for those who host underage drinking parties, or know about them going on in their homes.

Commission member Adam Vitale asked the board about some of the final language being used.

"One of the things it says is 'Whereas, there's a growing epidemic of underage drinking permeating our society, resulting in numerous deaths...," Vitale said. "I was under the impression that underage drinking is actually on the decline. I don't know if that's true or not, but this [statement in the ordinance], to me, is very, very negative."

The commission didn't make any changes to the ordinance.

Mayor Sal Garza did remind the board the best way to handle the language is to be a straight forward as you can.

The Liquor Advisory Commission approved sending the ordinance to the full council.

It could be presented at next week's meeting or the first meeting in March.
