|The second of a continuing series of budget work sessions will hope to give the Galesburg City Council some better direction.
Aldermen scheduled monthly budget work sessions through the first half of the year in the hopes of reaching a consensus earlier than December. However, the city council did the same thing last year, and still didn't have a budget in place until the 11th hour.
The Council decided at their last budget work session to use performance based budgeting, as opposed to the city's current budgeting process.
Monday night's meeting will focus on financial and pension policies, though details have not been disclosed as to City management's recommendation.
Although Galesburg does not have the same problems as the state with their pension, a considerable part of the budget is earmarked for police and fire pensions.
This month's work session topic will be followed in March by a comprehensive economic development plan for the City.
Monday's meeting is at 5:30pm at Galesburg City Hall.
