Armed Robbery Suspect Remains Free
Galesburg Police responded just after 10 am Thursday to the 100 block of Academy Street to El Jarochito to an armed robbery.

When police were on scene, the victims described a black male wearing a yellow or brown coat with black jeans had just robbed them at gun point.

The suspect was allegedly wearing a ski mask when he entered the building. The establishment had just opened for business when the suspect came in reportedly demanding money from the cash register.

The managers pushed the panic button, but when they couldn't open the cash register, the man allegedly tried to open it himself.

The suspect reportedly tried to grab a bank bag with money underneath the cash register when a manager tried to throw hot oil on the man. When describing the incident to police, the man said he was unsure if he hit the man and that the oil probably wasn't very hot because they had just opened.

Both workers hid in the freezer hoping that if the armed man was going to shoot them, he wouldn't be able to shoot through the door.

The suspect allegedly took off running down the street before the manager went running after him.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Galesburg Police or the Galesburg-area CrimeStoppers Hotline.
