Police Look for Suspect in Attack on Off-Duty Officer
Galesburg Police are looking for a man they say knowingly attacked an off-duty police officer Friday night.

Galesburg Police reports indicate officers took a report of the incident around 9:30 Friday night.

They say a man who was identified as an off-duty police officer was in a car travelling eastbound in the 400 block of Monmouth Boulevard left a house and entered the street, throwing a rock at the officer's car.

The officer says he left the car, telling his wife to call police, but at that time, the black male described as being in his late-30's charged and attacked the officer after the cop identified who he was.

The officer suffered head, facial, and nose injuries.

Police reports indicate traffic backed up for a time while the attack occurred, and that a neighbor possibly captured the incident on a cell phone.

No suspects are in custody, but officers say the perpetrator faces multiple Aggravated Battery, Reckless Conduct, and Criminal Damage to Property charges if caught.

Anyone with information is asked to call Galesburg Police or the Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers hotline.
