Facade Committee Hears About Proposed Remodel
Some work could soon begin to give another downtown Galesburg building a facelift.

The Galesburg Facade Advisory Commission last week heard from the owners of the building occupying Cherry Street Guitar at 45 South Cherry Street. They're asking for money for work they hope to start in May, meaning Aldermen will likely consider the proposal next month.

Galesburg Associate Planner Steve Gugliotta tells WGIL there's a lot the owner wants done.

"The owner of the property is hoping to use some of the funds to replace about 13 of the windows, remove some of the awning that's in disrepair at this point. Extensive re-tuck pointing. Repair a number of the sills around the windows that are in bad condition and possibly repairing, there's a fire escape on the north end that needs to be repaired."

Gugliotta says the owner still needs to provide some official documentation before all the paperwork is given to the City Council.

This is the first project in about a year submitted to the Facade Advisory Committee for consideration. Gugliotta says that's not to suggest there hasn't been exterior work done in the past year on downtown buildings. He also still refers to the program as a success.
