Health Records Go Electronic At Health Department
If you visit the Knox County Health Department or the Knox County Community Health Clinic, there will be a lot less paperwork to deal with starting today.

Health Department spokesperson Erin Olson says the clinic will be switching to an electronic system for patient records as of today -- a system that health department employees have been training on for weeks.

Olson tells the WGIL Morning News it's much like what hospitals are having to undergo right now as well.

"It's kind of the same initiative, once we and got our Federally Qualified Health Center and became federally funded, this was one of the things that was looked at to become EHR and I know we'll be able to, from what I've gathered, be able to share with a lot of places because everything will be electronic."

Olson says anyone needing to use the clinic should be a little patient for awhile, because as long as staff have been training on the new system, there likely will be problems and glitches along the way.

Olson says the health department should eventually save money by "going green."
