|More than 200 graduating students form the class of 2013 at Carl Sandburg College walked across the stage in the Galesburg High School Auditorium to collect their diplomas.
It was a celebratory mood inside the auditorium as family and friends began to take their seats and right at seven-thirty, Pomp and Circumstance began and the graduates walked in decked out in their robes and hats.
This years Commencement speaker was Illinois Lieutenant Governor Shelia Simon.
Simon told graduates they should be proud of what they've been able to accomplish and should be even prouder to have been a Carl Sandburg Charger.
"And a lot of you I know have had challenges along the way, but the fact that you're here in these funny outfits ridiculous hats means you have over come those challenges and I think a large part of the reason why you've over come those challenges is the attitude at this school which really focuses on you as an individual, not you as part of a cookie cutter educational process, but how to get you to where you want to go."
Simon was able to talk to several members of the class of 20-13 through Skype and shared what she learned from students with the crowd.
She ended by saying everyone has their own amazing story that should be told over and over.
