Prison Time For Man Convicted of Sexual Assault
A London Mills man has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for allegedly committing sexual acts with a young girl several years ago.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 27-year old James Laird pleaded guilty yesterday to a Class-X felony charge of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, and a Class-1 felony charge of Possession of Child Pornography.

In exchange, prosecutors dropped other child porn and sexual assault-related charges, and a judge sentenced Laird to a total of 18 years in prison, but with credit for a total of nearly seven-hundred-days in prison, and the state's truth-in-sentencing law, Laird could get out of prison as early as 10 years from now.

Laird was arrested in early February of last year, accused of sexually assaulting a female under the age of 13 between June and November of 2011, and of taking pornographic pictures of the girl after she turned 14 .

A second defendant in the case, 25-year old Jenna Riden, faces similar charges and is scheduled to make a plea in the case June 5th.
