HVAC Plan Approved for Orpheum
Engineers will now work on formal plans to upgrade the heating and air conditioning at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre.

The Knox County Civic Center Authority Wednesday approved plans moving ahead with that. Theatre interim president Josh Damewood says Quad Cities-based KJWW intends on doing the work in two phases next summer.

Damewood believes that will lessen the impact on some potential annual productions at the theatre.

"We could allow for time for Choral Dynamics to do the first performance and then do the first phase, and then allow a time slot for Prairie Players Civic Theater-- which is actually currently the weekend they are looking for-- and then after start the second phase of the project," Damewood said. "So the only renting organization we'd be affecting is the Knox County Fair Queen Pageant -- which we have been in discussion of moving it to Knox College as a possibility."

Damewood also talked about the possibility of doing other shows during that time-frame next year at other venues, which he says is a possibility. He said such examples could include a theatre production connected to a car show, or partnering with WGIL to do a show in connection to next year's Big Bang Boom fireworks show.

The board also approved posting and advertising for the position of Facilities Manager for the theatre, and Damewood says a press release on the matter will be issued Monday.
