Galesburg's top elected official says Railroad Days is special to him.
"My family is a railroad family," Mayor Sal Garza said. "My dad retired from the Burlington Northern. So, we live and breathe this sense of being a railroad community."
Garza helped kick off Railroad Days Friday night with opening ceremonies at the Galesburg Railroad Museum. Garza says he wants everyone attending Railroad Days to do something for him, that he thinks will ultimately help Galesburg.
"Please extend a warm welcome to all the visitors that you come across, that are here to enjoy the weekend's event," Garza said. "We want to encourage them to come back the following weekend for other things that we have going on."
Railroad Days continues through Sunday. State Representative Don Moffitt also attended, and helped lead the charge toward enjoying Railroad Days and trains by saying, "Bring on the trains."
