CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Changes are possible for the University of Illinois' swine research facilities.
The News-Gazette reports that some of the facilities are on land that's planned to be part of the university's research park. Officials plan a feasibility study, but need up to $400,000 in funding. Neal Merchen is a professor and head of the university's Department of Animal Sciences. He says the goal is to update and expand facilities where animals are bred, operated on and housed.
Merchen says the facilities would allow for research on animals as models for biomedical research. He says any plans at this point are in the "preliminary stage." (Copyright 2012 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
