The Republican candidate for Illinois Treasurer is defending criticism his Democratic opponent gave in Galesburg, by giving it right back to her.
State Senator Dan Rutherford raised campaign cash in Galesburg Monday morning, and told WGIL later on that she doesn't understand some of the assertions Robin Kelly made just two weeks ago in Galesburg.
For one, Kelly told WGIL two weeks ago she may not know some details about her opponent. "Really, I'm not quite sure what [Rutherford's] platform is," Kelly said.
Rutherford told WGIL Monday anyone can do their homework.
"[My platform is] on the (campaign) website," Rutherford said. "In fact, there's even the video of the debate between my opponent (and Rutherford). You will see a dramatic difference between her position on what she sees the office of State Treasurer being, and what my vision of the office should be."
Rutherford refers to YouTube clips of a debate between the two hosted by the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce.
Rutherford also took offense to comments Kelly made claiming Rutherford wanted to expand state government.
The Pontiac-area Republican says it was the Treasurer's office under Democrat Alexi Giannoulias that opened up various satellite offices around the state, including in Rock Island, and he wants to see those offices closed. |
