| The Republican candidate for Illinois State Treasurer is continuing his call to the current treasurer to cut wasteful spending by closing so-called "satellite offices." State Senator Dan Rutherford held a campaign fundraiser in downtown Galesburg Monday morning and talked with reporter afterwards. Rutherford tells WGIL while it would seem practical on the surface to have satellite treasurer's offices in different regions of the state, it isn't. "I asked the question [Monday] morning at the breakfast: 'How many people in this room have had a need to walk into the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, and for what purpose?' Not one person raised their hand," Rutherford said. "The office of the Illinois State Treasurer is an administrative office to invest the state's monies in the most secure way possible, for the highest return possible." Rutherford says the treasurer's office didn't have satellite facilites while Judy Barr-Topinka was treasurer. He says if Alexi Giannoulias is sure they're saving the state money as has been claimed, he'd like to see the proof. Rutherford faces democrat Robin Kelly in the fall. Rutherford claims Kelly will do nothing to cut spending if she's elected.  (State Sen.
