Police arrested a 17-year old Galesburg boy early Monday morning for failure to report an accident and resisting a peace officer.
A Galesburg police officer responded to a crash at the intersection of Day Street and East Brooks Street.
A maroon Cadillac had allegedly ran a stop at a high speed and struck a white Dogde truck with enough force to spin the truck around and hit a utility pole.
Upon arriving, the responding officer saw two while males running from the scene east bound on Brooks, the other went west on Brooks Street.
The officer pursued the male headed east bound and finally ordered him to the ground by gunpoint. According to police reports the boy was 17-years old and claims he did not know the driver of the car. He later admitted to being a passenger in the car, but maintains he did not know the driver.
The driver was not found, but police traced the owner of the vehicle. It is not clear at this time if the owner was the driver of the car.
Police contacted the owner's father who said his son told him the car was stolen. Police have been unable to make direct contact with the owner.
The 17-year old passenger was arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, resisting a peace officer, disregarding a stop sign, and failure to report an accident.
He was later released to his mother.
The three passengers in the truck reported only minor injuries and refused medical attention, both vehicles, however, were heavily damaged according to police reports. |
