Galesburg Police say they have one in custody, and are looking for another after a suspected armed robbery outside a Galesburg gas station late Tuesday night.
Galesburg Police reports indicate officers responding to the Circle K on East Main Street around 11:30 pm, after three people said they were assaulted and robbed by four to six black males.
A store patron says he was robbed by the men first, after one of them allegedly knocked him down, at which time the group started punching and kicking him, but got away only with a small amount of cash and a debit card.
The three others -- two men and one woman -- say the males then surrounded their car, forcing them out of the vehicle. They claim one of them pushed the female to the ground.
Officers got a description of two of the men, one allegedly holding a handgun, and started patrolling the area. They found one of the men in the 100 block of Blaine Avenue. 20-year old Bobby Hewing allegedly was caught later on Duffield Street after giving chase to police.
He faces charges including Armed Robbery, Robbery, Aggravated Battery, and Resisting Arrest. He was transported to the Knox County Jail after being treated at a hospital for a hand injury.
Police say they are looking for a second suspect in the case. They have not yet said if they're looking for anyone else. |
