Construction Resumes on Illinois River Island
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Work is resuming on a man-made island in Lower Peoria Lake of the Illinois River after an eight-month hiatus.

The (Peoria) Journal Star says construction began Wednesday on the project after a series of delays because of high water.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hopes to finish the project by September. That's two years behind schedule.

Crews are dredging the lake to build the island, one of several proposed for the area. It's being built to restore depth diversity for fish habitats.

The island has been in the planning stages for 15 years. Construction began in 2009.
