|CHICAGO (AP)--A former University of Illinois at Chicago gymnast who threw a pot of boiling water on his dog was sentenced to a year of probation.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Cook County Judge James Obbish sentenced Kyle Voissem on Thursday, even as he lamented the treatment the 21 year old has received since the public learned of the 2011 incident.
Voissem received death threats and his attorney says he's been turned down by dozens of employers when he applies for jobs.
He was charged with a misdemeanor after he threw scalding water on the dog because the animal urinated on the floor. But because the dog was badly burned, the cruelty to an animal charge was upgraded to a felony. He was convicted in March.
