National Guard Facility Making Progress In Normal
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- Construction is continuing on a new Illinois National Guard readiness facility in Normal.

The Pantagraph reports that if work sticks to schedule the 404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade should start moving from Chicago in about a year. The $18 million project will produce a 50,000-square-foot building. State and federal money is paying for the project.

The brigade includes military police, chemical and engineering battalions. Training at the new site could start as early as August 2014.

Project manager Mark Hendricks says concrete footings have been poured, walls are going up and steel is being erected. Workers would like to have the building enclosed by the fall so they can focus on the interior during the winter.
