Woman Pleads Guilty In Accidental Shooting Death
A Henry County woman has admitted to accidentally shooting and killing her husband -- just days before she would have gone to trial in the matter.

Henry County Circuit Court records indicate 29-year-old Robin Atchison pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of Involuntary Manslaughter, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Obstruction of Justice. In exchange for the guilty plea, another Obstruction of Justice charge was dropped.

Atchison was sentenced as part of the plea deal to a total of 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Atchison was arrested April 30th after Henry County Sheriffs Deputies were called to an apartment in the five-hundred block of South First Street in Alpha. Prosecutors say Atchison shot her 21-year-old husband Trevor in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. He later died at a Peoria hospital after being taken off life support.

Atchison reportedly thought the safety was still on the gun when she pulled the trigger. Atchison allegedly also unloaded the rifle, hid it, and threw a spent ammunition cartridge in the garbage before police arrived.

A victim impact statement was read in court, and Atchison also made her own statement.

Atchison was scheduled to go to trial later this month before Tuesday's plea was entered.

A man charged with selling the gun to the Atchison's -- 23-year-old Clint Cole of Alpha -- pleaded guilty last month and will be spending 59 weekends in the Henry County Jail, along with 30 months of probation.
