|Wednesday, the United States flag is being flown at half mast around the Country, for today marks the 12th anniversary of the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks.
At the Galesburg VFW Post 2257 members of the post honored the victims and survivors of that day with their annual Patriots Day Ceremony.
There wasn't a large crowd, but the message to never forget was still made clear.
Quartermaster Mike Lummis told the gathered crowd of Veterans and supporters this is a day that will live on forever.
"This morning, much like the morning of 9/11/01, our community prepared itself for another day here in Western Illinois, but this day can never be just a normal day because of the attack that we suffered," says Lummis. "It is our duty and our obligation to never forget those who perished on that day."
The day was remembered with the reading of those first responders who gave their lives.
The names of local soldiers who lost their lives fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan wars were also read.
