Former Nurse Gets Probation in Fraud Case
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP)--A federal judge has sentenced a southwestern Illinois woman to two years of probation for using a painkiller meant for residents of the nursing home where she was working.

Thirty four year old Diana Van Etten of O'Fallon pleaded guilty in June in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis to health-care fraud charges. She was sentenced Friday.

Authorities say that from 2010 through January of this year, Van Etten was a nurse at the Caseyville Nursing Home when she signed out hydrocodone as if she was giving it to the home's residents. She instead consumed the drug herself.

Along the way, prosecutors say she caused 11 false claims for fraudulent prescriptions to be submitted to the state's Medicaid program.
