Knox Nursing Home Costs May Shift
The Knox County nursing union says the County's 20-13 budget may not allow it to survive.

The AFSCME union says 935-thousand dollars were moved onto the nursing home's books to fund the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

The union and the County have been in negotiations on a contract for more than a year.

Union Representative Randy Lynch tells WGIL the County has taken the funds and put it in the nursing home budget.

"We're concerned because we've given concessions for the last eight years to save the nursing home and keep it open and financially secure," says Lynch. "By adding that almost 935-thousand dollars that's going to be devastating to the nursing home and they're not going to be able to pay it."

A union negotiating session has been scheduled for November 21st with a federal mediator.

Lynch says everything in the contract is on the table.

He went on to say that everything is suspicious to the union due to the nursing home's current financial instability.
