Health Department Answers Obamacare Questions
Confusion and possible misunderstandings continue a month after the first phase of the national Affordable Care Act took effect.

The Knox County Health Department, along with other agencies around the state, held events Saturday to help answer residents' questions about what many refer to as "Obamacare." In Galesburg, Health Department trained counselors were available at Sandburg Mall.

Mariah Bowen is one of the trained counselors, and tells WGIL one of the big questions doesn't deal with what Obamacare is.

"They just want to know what they may be eligible for," Bowen said. "I'm guiding them through the "Get Covered Illinois" site. There is a questionnaire there, where they can see if they are eligible for the private insurance through the marketplace, or if they may be eligible for Medicaid."

Bowen says while a lot of attention has been paid to persistent problems with the healthcare.gov website set up by the federal government, residents of Illinois need to remember that they can go through getcoveredillinois.gov to sign up here, often with a few less problems.

She calls the "Get Covered Illinois" page "step one" in the health insurance process.
