Call For Probe of Prison Guard's DUI
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP)--A leading state senator wants the inspector general to look into Illinois Department of Corrections procedures after the son of the agency's top investigator was arrested for drunken driving.

Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale questions why DOC investigations and intelligence chief Larry Beck did not recuse himself after his son Jeffrey crashed a pickup into a home in Buffalo, east of Springfield, on Feb. 27. Jeffrey Beck, a prison guard, has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving.

Dillard, the Senate Judiciary Committee's top Republican, wants to "find out if there's a cover-up." He was responding to an Associated Press inquiry into the matter.

Larry Beck oversees investigations of misconduct by prison inmates and employees. A spokeswoman says Beck didn't report a potential conflict of interest because an investigation hasn't begun.
