|Gerald D. Gilson, 92 of Galesburg died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born January 2, 1921 in Astoria to Fenton and Edna Beadles Gilson. He married Evelyn M. Nape on June 10, 1944 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2009.
He is survived by his son, Michael D. (and Martha) Gilson of Galesburg; his daughter Ruth A. (and Harold) Bruner of Hockessin Del; three grandchildren, Matthew (and Deidra) Gilson, Elizabeth (and Bernard) Merk and Michael Bruner; two great-grandchildren, Lily Gilson and Reed Gilson; and two sisters, Betty Sundberg of Cottonwood, Ariz and Jacquelin Toland of Knoxville Il. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters andonce granddaughter, Judith Marie Bruner.
Gerald began work in the early 1940's, working for W.A Jordon Wholesale. He then drove the city bus for eight years. He also drove a cross country buss for Oinky Randall. After working for three years at Brown's Specialty, he began employment at MRS Beverages, which later became G&M Distributers. He retired in 1979. Gerald graduated from Astoria High School in 1938. He was a very active member of the Grace Episcopal Church and served as vestry treasurer for the church.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1939-1940
Memorial service will be 1 p.m Thursday January 17, 2013 at Central Congregational Church Rev. Canon James M. Clement will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation has been accorded. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
