|Laura Joan Vallosio, age 82 of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at her residence in Moline, Illinois.
She was born on August 11, 1930 in Cuba, Illinois the daughter of James and Frances Haile Jayne. She graduated from Cuba High School. She married John R. Skender on June 18, 1950 in Cuba, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1986. She then married Louis Vallosio on May 7, 1994 in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2006.
Surviving are her daughters: Jana (Ken) Shook of Moline, Illinois and Jaynee (Bill) Fineran of Moline, Illinois; one step-son: Michael (Joy) Vallosio of Mapleton, Illinois. Six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and her cousin Doreen (Maurice) Bent of Gloucester, England. She was preceded in death by her husbands and one sister, Mary Krohe.
She worked for the Selective Service during the Korean War. Then, she worked from the 1960's to the 1990's for the ROVA School District, Oneida, Illinois as the District Treasurer and was the Secretary to the Superintendent.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, Illinois and Maxey Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Knoxville, Illinois, and was active in her churches serving on committees. While in Moline she attended the First Covenant Church in Moline, Illinois. She volunteered for many years at the Community Treasure of the Galesburg
Community Foundation in Galesburg, Illinois and served on the Health Scholarship Board.
She loved dancing, entertaining friends, giving of her time, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who all adored her.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Maxey Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Russ Collister will officiate.
