|Richard L. Hillier, age 80 of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:58 A.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on January 13, 1933 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Louis L. and Leona L. Sherwood Hillier. He attended and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950. He married Mary Kathryn Wignall, he then married Patricia Ann Wessels on December 13, 1984 in Galesburg, Illinois.
Surviving is his wife, Patricia of Galesburg, IL. Two daughters: Julie A. Hillier of Davenport, IA and Sheryl L. (Ron) Courson of Green Valley, AZ; one son: John R. Hillier (Karen) of El Paso, TX; four stepsons: Michael (Dianna) Wessels of Galesburg, IL; Douglas Wessels of Galesburg, IL; Gregory (Lisa) Wessels of Allyn, WA; Bruce (Beverly) Wessels of St. Louis, MO. Four grandchildren, one great grandson, eight step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one step great grandchild.
He drove from Central Transfer as a semi-truck driver for ten years with the last three years as terminal manager. He operated Hillier’s CafĂ© from 1959 to 1978, selling the cafĂ© in 1983. He then worked for SMS, Inc. for eleven years and the last five years as manager of the Davenport, Iowa location.
He enjoyed most all sports, being a diehard Cub and Bears Fan. He liked to swim, walk, play basketball and shoot hoops.
He also found the First Greater Galesburg Treasure Hunt of $1000.00 by following the clues put in the paper. He found it at the old airport along Fremont Street near the fence surrounding it, in March 1955.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois. Visitation will be held Monday, February 25, 2013, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Inurnment will be in the Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Illinois.
